Beach Volleyball is a sport played by two teams each on a sand court divided by a net. There are different versions available for specific circumstances in order to offer the versatility of the game to everyone.
Some of the different versions of Beach Volleyball include games with different numbers of players per team and different rules for each of these team configurations. Beach Volleyball teams are most commonly comprised of two players per team but 4-a-side and 6-a-side are also very popular formats.
The object of the game is to send the ball over the net in order to ground it on the opponent's court, and to prevent the ball from being grounded on your team's side of the court.
The team has three hits (including any block touches) to return the ball across the net to the opponent.
The ball is put into play with a "serve": the ball is hit by the server's hand over the net to the opponents. The rally continues until the ball is grounded on the playing court, goes "out" or a team fails to return in properly.
In Beach Volleyball, the team winning a rally scores a point and earns the right to serve. When the receiving team wins a rally, it gains a point and the right to serve. The order of the serving players must be rotated every time this occurs.
